NN - 16/09 Easy 7

Launched at gentlemen's hours around 6:15am after Mitch finished his cig and coffee. The Mayor was nowhere to be seen after last weeks controversy in which he failed to show his fish at the beach, and rumors abound that he posted an old photo of his 7. For shame sir! :D Barry oh Barry.... wherefore ...

Re: Narrowneck Sat

Sorry, I fell asleep reading your book, which seemed to be nothing more than a rehash of techniques stolen from me.

In better news, I've almost finished knitting a new jumper for these chilly mornings. :coffee:

DId I say an hour? I meant all day and all night.

Wasn't worth the effort, coldness, and sore body.

Totally not recommended.

Better? ;)

Narrow Neck at Winter?

They said it couldn't be done.

NN dies over winter were the calls.

Well here are the results of a 1 hour drift 100m off the beach.

28/06 Whangaparaoa Winter Wonderland

So Mitch txt'd me on Wednesday and wanted to go fishing in the morning. I'm really busy at work so of course I agreed to go. I paddled out alone at 7:30am right on slack tide and didn't get a bite for an hour. Then the fish finder went white with squiggly lines and it was business time! Landed some ...

Re: Winter boots.

Still good.

Although they stink inside now - have to spray them with deodorant, the smell is gag inducing lol

Beach launching is fine as long as the waves don't go over the top rim, as water will find its way in no matter how tight you pull them against your calf.

Re: Landing big fish - what do you use and why?

I use a landing net if it looks like a keeper. Fish can be hooked by a tiny bit of skin and pulling them out of the water can rip it. https://www.marine-deals.co.nz/kayak-landing-nets/berkley-extended-kayak-landing-net I keep a gaff in the footwell of my reload just in case I get a kingi or somethin...

Nice haul master!

I bought one of those K-labs rods - exact same version by the looks of it, works well.

Weather looks balls all week, with winter coming it might be time to switch to hunting Gurnard in a different spot :y:

Re: NN - 18/05. Only fools and Horses.

Orange sliders did most of the work on the 1st trip.

But they are pretty boring to fish with - just sticking em in the rod holder and waiting does as good as slow jigging them up and down.

So I skipped them for the 2nd go, and it was much more fun with fleas and softies.

Re: NN - 18/05. Only fools and Horses.

Great weather today, so I went out and had another crack at Takapuna drifting around #1 - #5.

Was awesome stuff.

Brought a new Tranx 400 which worked smooth as silk with the OA Fleas.
