Re: Rotorua lakes advice

Gisborne Point is fishing well at the moment mate.

I got 5 yesterday morning early. 4 on an Olive Rabbit and 1 on a Grey Ghost.

Fish were hard on the bottom in 25-30m mark.

Water temp now over 18deg which is apparently the magic number and definitely seeing schools of smelt now.

Re: Rotorua lakes advice

Hi mate, The lakes (jigging) is fairly slow at this time of the year until the water temp increases a bit. The fish and smelt are quite spread out and could be anywhere in the water column unlike when the water is warm with a good thermocline. I have been out a couple times this season briefly (we'v...

Re: Lake Okatina

Those are some good fish mate, well done!

I fish Rotoiti quite often through summer and occasionally head to Oki if the weather permits. Generally don't get as many on Oki but the size is generally bigger.

If you are keen for another session, I'll try join you.

Re: Matata Info

Cheers Ruff! Yeah Im keeping an eye on that weather window for Sunday morning. I much prefer lure fishing of all types over bait fishing so will take a few options out. If it starts looking ugly i might just launch a Whakatane and fish off Kohi Pt. Never fished there other than for gathering livies ...

Matata Info

Hi all, Me and a mate looking to head out off Matata sometime soon (possibly Sunday morning). Having never fished there before i was hoping for a bit of advice... What is your ideal wind direction and swell height for this area?. Bearing in mind that we are both very new to kayaking. I was planning ...

Re: New from Hawkes bay/BOP

Hi Jake,

I live in Rotorua and fish the lakes a fair bit over summer when the fishing is good. Your welcome to join us sometime, also keen to get out on the salty stuff maybe around Matata-Whakatane area.

Cheers,
Josh

New To The B.O.P

Hi all, I moved to the BOP (Rotorua) about 10months ago and am just starting to explore the fishing opportunities around the place by yak. I'm very new to kayaking but fished most of my life. I've mainly been yak fishing in the lakes (Okataina, Tarawera and Rotoiti) jigging for trout with pretty goo...
