Re: Are we loosing the "brotherhood "??

Are we losing the brotherhood? No. Im kinda new at yak fishing but have put in the hours. I go out most weekends and atleast twice a week through the warmer months. I see a few guys in yaks through summer but nearly none through winter. I think it a seasonal occupation for alot of people. why yak? F...

Re: Milford Sound (and Abel Tasman)

abel able unable or just plain disabled its a mint coast. no need to upgrade gear. Bookings required for camping through summer. if you have time stay golden bay side. if your short on time a sea taxi would probably drop you up for a cruisy paddle back. or base yourself at totaranui n do fishing tri...

Re: Glass and Rocky Beaches

I wouldnt put glass out of the equation mike. Ive ridden a couple of boards onto rocks (at cable n schnappers) and damage is generally minimal. Fixing easy and fun. Im thinking theres a lot more glass on a kayak than my skinny boards.... Also cable/glen area are the only spots with boulders, perhaps...

WINTER!

Well almost. Bit of a shock seeing snow on the hills a couple of weeks back. Did a weekend trip to the bay with the otha fulla. Fishing was tough but the weather was stellar n calm. Lurked around the islands n wainui farm picking up mostly smaller brim. Asking around revealed the good fish were on t...

klabs + shimano + 80cm kingi = fun

Finally hooked a decent fish on this combo and got to put it through a decent work out. Klabs 24t 20lb rod was a pleasure to use. Plenty of grunt n lots of flex for those big runs. I enjoy flicking softies n poppers on this rod, as its so light I dont get tired. Shimano stradic ci4 4000 had enough d...

Re: Straylining (How do you personally do it?)

20lb braid. 40lb supple trace (20 in winter) 1 or 2 6/0 mustad demon light gauge circle hooks depending on bait size if two hooks, about 3-4" between them pre made traces varying from no weight through to 1oz. usually use 1/4 oz. just enough to get bait sinking but not enough to anchor it. ideally i...
