Re: Fishing spots near Christchurch ?

I'm hoping to get out in the not-too-distant-future to do the same. Getting my replacement kayak set up.

Re: SAROP underway at Cavallis - Drifting kayak

And contact details and/or call sign on the yak would probably be a good idea. Think it is mandatory now isn't it?

Re: Got me a trailer

Finally HLD, I can't reverse with mine yet, but man, so much easier! Especially as you say, that final lift at the end of a long day of fishing. I just have to rest my kayak's nose on the support bars and it gentle slides onto the trailer. Plus, wonderfully convenient for storage. I had one of thos...

Re: Minimum Requirements Handheld VHF

Thanks Dedant, and now I've done the proper research: and it's all bloody complex, as you'd expect for something like Radio, which is all we had until they learnt to shove TV signals through it. Then it became more complex, so it goes some thing like this: All the info is at this wonderfully comple...

Raymarine transducer dimensions

Anyone able to give me dimensions for a Raymarine Dragonfly Chirp Transducer without mount. After the width and length. Wondering if it could be mounted into the keel near the back of my Espri. It's always dangerous for the bank account when I start thinking. http://www.raymarine.com/uploadedImages/...

Re: Need Another Tub

Nice. A suggestion: lose the deck ropes around the cockpit - magnet for hooks. :y: And buckles, knives, ... or just about anything on you re-entering on the water. I will add a simple webbing grab handle each side of the cockpit about the pivot point for porting. Just deciding if I want them on the...

Re: Kayak Fishfinder - GPS - Sounder Recommendations

I see Raymarine comes with a marine chart, does Lowrance do the same ? My Lowrance did not have one when I bought my yak second hand, to me, very frustrating as I was fishing randomly not knowing the reefs / drop offs Navionics + changed that I believe that with the Lowrance anything ending in X ha...

Re: Kayak Fishfinder - GPS - Sounder Recommendations

I'd go the hook2 over the dragonfly personally. Screen resolution is WAY better. Doesn't have chirp so that's the downside. If you can get a 7 inch version, it'd be even better :) Agreed. The Dragonfly 5 has the same resolution as the Hook2, but at almost twice the price for fancier GPS display. Fo...

Re: Kayak Fishfinder - GPS - Sounder Recommendations

Watching with interest. I was looking at one of these for a reasonably compact option https://www.marine-deals.co.nz/raymarine-dragonfly-4-pro-gps-fishfinder-package or one of these https://www.marine-deals.co.nz/marine-gps-chartplotter-fishfinder/lowrance-hook2-5x-gps-fishfinder-with-splitshot-tran...

Quick and dirty solution till I can build a rack in the garage. Grab an offcut of flat and hammer it flatish. Garb one offcut of pipe. Fizz the two together and drill a hole through the other end. Now I have something to go through the kayak that I can put a lock onto since there is nothing else rem...

Let the games commence. Wind currently 41km/h gusting 54km/h, don't think I'll be testing it out today.

Re: Need Another Tub

Picked up the Espri this afternoon. Locked on a trailer now as usual but will need to work out something better. Will put a custom shelf in the garage for permanent storage. Most immediate mods will be side handles and foot pegs. I don't bend too well so I need better foot bracing. Definitely a high...

Nice. Have a search on this site for pictures of how people have rigged their Espri's. There have been a few.
.
Absolutely. First thing will be adding side grab handles for carrying. Cannot figure out why they omitted them.

Then add fish finder, anchor system, ...

Re: Need Another Tub

I've also had a Viking 400. I'm taller the average and stronger than average with arms like an Orangutan and I could just get it onto the top of our wagon (Pajero) after a long paddle. At 100kg I was too heavy for it to paddle easily but at 67 you'd be fine. Sure wish I had the strength I had in my...

Re: Need Another Tub

Shall throw in my 2cents here. gadgetm my wife is 5' 4" approx 66kg she can load onto and off again her yak, onto our wagon with no problems . Yak paddles very well without a rudder ,has plenty of wriggle room, very seaworthy , fit for purpose. My wife loves it and so do I . I used it and still do ...

Re: Need Another Tub

I would add the OK Scrambler to the shortlist. It was my first yak and I did an awful lot with it. When I upgraded to an OK Prowler Ultra 4.3, I never noticed any difference in paddling performance despite it's extra weight and length, although the rudder was a luxury! I have thought about the Scra...

Re: Need Another Tub

I took a espri for a paddle a few weeks back. I'm 110kg and ot felt a bit unstable bit at nearly half that I think it would be pretty good. Wasn't bad space wise either. Sent from my SM-G955F using Tapatalk I like narrow, slightly tippy, for speed and manoeuvrability. Narrow lets me get a good bite...
