Re: Need kayak electrical fittings/ grommet

Could also search 'cable glands' but the holes are usually too small for the plugs you have to pass through them.

Re: Okiwi Bay, Marlborough

Nice. How's the blue cod fishing this time if year? Usually pretty good, couple of years ago they were chasing my shadow round the boat. Pretty elusive this time. Plenty of snaps and gurnard caught. Might have to get out here tomorrow, the bug is biting. Just have to decide which 'trousers' to wear...

Cheers for the TR. Been wanting to fish there since 'epicsquids' trip years ago.. Where did you stay? Any tips?
Stayed at a family batch/crib of one of the other forum members. There is a holiday park there.

Tip: Get out there, the fish are everywhere.

Okiwi Bay, Marlborough

Last weekend I joined up with a few fellow www.nzhuntingandshooting.co.nz members for the annual 'top of the south' fishing weekend. The last couple of times I'd been out on some of their fizz boats, but this year it was time to try out the yak. I picked up one of my daughters after school so she co...

Re: Remoulding plastic

I've got a Prowler 13 and faced the same problem. In the end I mounted the transducer inside the hull and it works fine. It's also better protected from scrapes when landing and launching. This won't work for side scan sets though apparently. Yeah, likely the direction I'll take. Not likely to inve...

Remoulding plastic

Anyone tried heating and remoulding a transducer scupper? I've got an early model Prowler 13 with the small transducer scupper, which seems to be pretty useless size wise. Half tempted to apply some heat to soften and remould that area into a bigger scupper.

Re: Gadgetmans Espri

I made a fairly compact long line set up for the yak. I wanted short traces so it was a DIY job, since I couldn't find any anywhere that came close to the specs I wanted. For the trace rack I cut a length of PVC downpipe and cut 6mm slots in each end. Then I tied on the hooks and then the long line ...

Gadgetmans Espri

Since my old yak grew legs and walked I had to get another one. After a good look around and asking for some opinions from other members I was on the lookout for a Tetra, Espri or Hornet. The main criteria being light weight as I'm not that young, not that I'll ever admit it, and when I jump on the ...

Re: Slam Soft Baits

I've used them, IMO not such a great hit rate as gulp but the likes of spawning season when you get plagued by snapper not a bad option as they last longer. and ultimately more economical fishing. Now excuse me, but that seems a bit of an oxymoron to me. When has anything seriously fishing, boating...

Re: Ali Express for fishing gear

I've bought a bit of fishing gear from aliexpress. Got some rods as cheap throw away gear while I'm re-learning. The rods are very well made and Fuji guides and reel seats. Very impressed, and they cost bugger all delivered. Have also bought reels, snap swivels, hooks, line, etc which are also very ...

Re: Slipperyness?

Back on the late 70's they used pledge polish or good old sunlight dish wash detergent on the hulls of the rowing boats for more speed. The Christ College students were a bit slow allying it to their coxed 4 after a night on the town the night before. I'd say Armourall, or equivalent silicon s...

And contact details and/or call sign on the yak would probably be a good idea. Think it is mandatory now isn't it?

Re: Got me a trailer

Finally HLD, I can't reverse with mine yet, but man, so much easier! Especially as you say, that final lift at the end of a long day of fishing. I just have to rest my kayak's nose on the support bars and it gentle slides onto the trailer. Plus, wonderfully convenient for storage. I had one of thos...

Re: Minimum Requirements Handheld VHF

Thanks Dedant, and now I've done the proper research: and it's all bloody complex, as you'd expect for something like Radio, which is all we had until they learnt to shove TV signals through it. Then it became more complex, so it goes some thing like this: All the info is at this wonderfully comple...

Raymarine transducer dimensions

Anyone able to give me dimensions for a Raymarine Dragonfly Chirp Transducer without mount. After the width and length. Wondering if it could be mounted into the keel near the back of my Espri. It's always dangerous for the bank account when I start thinking. http://www.raymarine.com/uploadedImages/...

Re: Need Another Tub

Nice. A suggestion: lose the deck ropes around the cockpit - magnet for hooks. :y: And buckles, knives, ... or just about anything on you re-entering on the water. I will add a simple webbing grab handle each side of the cockpit about the pivot point for porting. Just deciding if I want them on the...
