Re: Best long lasting VHF ?
I don't believe this. Just sorting gear for a weekend away and see the comments on the battery clip for the MHS75. I thought you guys must have been rough with it so I unclipped mine to check and it disintegrated. That will teach me. Only got the stupid radio after my Voyager died. Now I'm off to ge...

Re: A lot can happen in a weekend - advice needed on repair
Gordon at Barracuda kayaks Silverdale would be the best person in the Auckland area to take it too. Thanks Winch. I talked with Gordon and they don't do repairs on equipment they haven't sold. I respect that. He put me onto Ding King in Silverdale who repair surfboards but also all the local surf s...

Unfortunately yes. Either side of the cut are sitting about 3 to 4mm different on the plane. Suspect need to sand out completely then build back up.kernels wrote:That scratch looks like it's just through the paint ? Has it gone all the way through the fibreglass too?

A lot can happen in a weekend - advice needed on repair
20160403_072031.jpg I had great plans for the weekend with a charter to Great Barrier. Weather mentioned that the planned trip was cancelled at the last minute which wasn't unexpected as I had been tracking the forecast for a week. Those who know me well known I'm an optimist and I was fully packed...

Re: Big swell, hard fishing, some good fish, and good times!
Thanks for putting me onto the fish after my fish finder died during launch. Looks like head unit problem rather than power supply. Great trip away with a good bunch of like minded blokes. Plenty of food and then some. The only vegetables I got near over the weekend was that field of cauliflower in ...

Re: Firth today 17.6
I think the reason for the photo being upside down is a little less obvious than just holding the camera upside down. I have followed Big K's trip reports for years and they all have a common theme. Great fish, same location and an added extra. The following last 10 photos may give you a clue.

Re: Roof rack weight limits
I installed them on my car and have carried 2 kayaks on long trips but noticed some vibration after 6 months. Found all the bolts were loose. Now check the bolts before each long trip.

Re: Playing in the surf
Thanks Manne yes I need to learn and playing in the the surf zone let's me try what works and what doesn't. Back to watching YouTube so next time I'm a bit better. Was out at Sandy Bay in 2 To 3m surf and made it all the way in until I really wiped out. Kids couldn't stop laughing to come to my aid....

Playing in the surf
The ANZAC weekend swell meant fishing was off and playing in the surf on. After taking a couple of OK Freenzy's out for a hour of fun at Oakura Northland, it was time to get out the Stealth Evo 495 to catch some waves. Even got my youngest to try it out.

Re: New toy Tuesday - Mega Savage Real Eel
Picked up a few of the bigger models myself when targeting Pike. Haven't had much of a chance to test them out on Kings. What colours did you go with and reckon are the most successful for Kings? I used Olive Pearl and Green Pearl but am sure other colours will work. Check these bad boys out!!! ali...

Re: New toy Tuesday - Mega Savage Real Eel
Where do you get these from Pope? http://www.savagegear-usa.com/product/view/lures/real-series/real-eel-loose-body Picked up a couple of Saury "game" lures a few years back - They didn't last long at all, despite upping the weaponry for the second one. Might have a nosey at these guys.......

New toy Tuesday - Mega Savage Real Eel
Over the last 6 months I have been using the Savage Real Eels to target kingfish with some success. 20 plus rat kings over 3 trips By slow trolling. They have a good action behind the kayak. I have also had 2 big bust offs which must have been sizable kingies based on how hard they pulled. I decided...

Navionics Sonarcharts
With 2 kayaks and only 1 fishfinder with GPS I have started using my phone loaded with Navionics as a GPS chart. Navionics Sonarcharts has been around for a while but I'm not sure many are using them to find structure and drop-offs. The Sonarcharts are based on user data that then provides a chart w...
