Re: Broken rod and PB Kingfish

Nice. At least you can say the Rod died doing what it loved best. Spot X around Leigh? You wouldn't be part of the Midnight Goat Island fishing club would you? I'll be staying at Goat Island camp site in a few weeks - is it acceptable. To launch through the reserve, bristling with fishing rods, or ...

Ohiwa harbour

I'm off to Ohiwa for the first time tomorrow. I'm a dedicated softbaiter - is this going to work in the harbour or do I need to change my approach?
Kingfish in the harbour? Too shallow for jigging?

Any advice appreciated.

Takapuna local knowledge please

I'll be visiting Takapuna in the next month or 2. I'm looking to get on the water in the mornings for a few hours before the real world gets in the way. Could anyone suggest areas to target after launching by the campground there?

Thanks

searching for guided Kayak tours

Go to Rob Fort of Coromandel Kayak Adventures. It is more than worth the drive from Auckland. You will be well looked after with excellent equipment and guidance, and if the fish exist he will put you onto them.

Re: Maketu bop area

Best places for launching around Maketu without having to deal with surf, Downtown? Or is that wishful thinking?

Re: EAST CAPE

I've heard of recent reports of people being treated pretty badly by the locals. As such I'm inclined to stay at mainstream holiday parks and launch from public boat ramps, so that my gear is still there when I get back.

Is Nov/Dec the time for tuna?
How's the winter fishing?

Re: EAST CAPE

Thanks for the prompt reply...

What about tuna from there? Are they a viable prospect from Waihau or Lottin point, and if so what works best?

Is softbaiting less successful there, or equally deadly as it is on the Coromandel?

EAST CAPE

Anybody familiar with the East Cape? There seems to be precious little written about it here. Looking at a trip to Waihau Bay. I'd appreciate any advice about fishing from there...
