Re: Paddle recommendations

Hi Mike, Looking at your handiwork, I would put myself as less accomplished than you... my attempts have resulted in serviceable paddle's. Works of art that can be sold for $100's?... No. Ok, given my lack of facilities and tools? Yes Good enough not to be embarrassed... Yes. Room for improvement? A...

Re: PUK Bay

I managed a single gurnard landed, with a second one lost at the surface.

Sweet day! (shame about the fish) I headed in around 2.00pm.

Was that you with the blue? Viking 400 that I talked to on the beach? I had the Purple/red kayak.

Re: Sea Sickness Medication

Never thrown up on the kayak.
I've headed in a few times, because I've started feeling queasy.
That is when I've been anchored in choppy seas, bait fishing, for several hours and when nothing was happening with the fish to keep the mind off it.

Re: Bilge pump trolling motor (WIP)

Yep, thanks for that. I had thoughts of being able to swap it between the Venus 11 and my Reload. If I did that I would add a few more batteries, in parallel, to increase the Amp-hours/run-time. I might put the ammeter back on and see what it draws, on the water, to get a better idea of what it is u...

Re: Bilge pump trolling motor (WIP)

Hi Guy's, We got out to Henley Lake this afternoon... Average speed according to Wee Wifey's garmin watch/thingy (oh sorry...I'm informed it is a Vivoactive HR (Whatever!)) was 5.0 KPH... not bad for something slapped together in my backyard. You don't get to see my daughter beaching herself on an i...

Bilge pump trolling motor (WIP)

Hi Guy's, My 11 year old daughter needed a tow back to shore last time we went out at Henly lake, Masterton. The wind was blowing her Ocean kayak Venus 11 (non ruddered) sideways and she couldn't make enough headway to turn at the same time. I thought that giving the Venus 11 (and daughter) a boost ...

I thought so, but my R+D division hasn't stopped laughing since I told them about the world wide release of their latest product...
I feel there's something they are not telling me, but I cannot work it out.

Would you like to place an order?

ULTIMATE dropper knot tool!

With apologies to purists who can tie knots blindfolded, I have perfected the ULTIMATE(tm) dropper knot tool!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Sorry if this idea has been used... ignorance is bliss!) The following tutorial assumes knowledge of the basics of tying a dropper knot. Start the knot as per the myriad of You...

Re: Are we loosing the "brotherhood "??

I've dabbled in land based sea fishing since my late teens, snorkelled, spearfished, gathered paua etc. I'm not particularly good at it but for me it is entertainment not necessity. Put me on a river bed and I can catch trout... on the sea? The fish don't like me. Why did you get into the hobby? Des...

Re: Retractable transducer in Viking tackle pod.

Ok... I'll point out that I haven't got to trail this yet. (All care, no responsibility!) Items that I used for this (Mitre 10 Mega or Bunnings or your plumber mate) 1 x 1 metre length of 32mm pipe $ 11.55 (I only needed 365mm) https://gflaya.dm2304.livefilestore.com/y4mB5xZhXcniNSsjofqJUZiPIevPtrrS...

Re: Transport kayak on ute

Keep in mind that your Ute will need the salt water washed off it every time you go out. My last Ute (an ancient L200) succumbed to rust after 8 years of ferrying the kayak around.
I use a trailer now.

Have fun!

Re: Greenland Paddle

So the diamond shape cross section is the correct shape? I have seen professional paddles that appeared to be ovoid. How does that shape work? I had thought that the rounded edges would pass through the water more efficiently. How do you use it properly? What edge leads the stroke... top/bottom, kay...

Retractable transducer in Viking tackle pod.

Hi Guy's. I have often wondered if I've been losing some definition/range in my Humminbird 798 side-scan function, due to the transducer sitting above the keel of my kayak and trying to pass the signal through the air gap at the bottom of the tackle pod. I decided to make a shaft that I can push dow...

Re: Attaching New Flag

I have used self amalgamating tape on the top and bottom of my flag (also a NZ red ensign). The stretchy rubberised nature of the tape helps to grip the mast and flag firmly to the mast.

Burnsco has it for $19.99, assuming it's the same stuff.

Re: Good Short Length Fishing Kayak?

Hi... 3 metres is getting fairly short, more like a surf/river kayak. A quick look at Ocean kayak/Viking sites show some kayaks at that size. Ocean kayak does the "Mysto" at 2.97m, Viking has the "Nemo" at 2.7m. How tall and what sort of build do you have, because those choices may not be suitable f...

Re: Is there a 'Go to' Fish finder battery charger?

I use a 12v battery charger.
I know, I'm such a barbarian.

But... it's about 30 years old and only gives off .5 A trickle charge on a good day...

I do acquire free (used) 18A 12V batteries occasionally.
The last one of these that I bought was $30.00 (special deal)

I swear they make hooks with smaller eyes these days... I'm using Burnsco specs on the water when tying knots.
