Good question Achilles.... all the promo videos etc claim that you'll get the "best" results using an overhead type reel and a soft tip rod. Based on my experience the reel freespools better than a spinning reel and the soft rod tip allows a smoother / soft action on the jig. I'd suggest this logic ...
