Re: Tongoio Hawkes Bay 13-8

Brilliant trip and catch , well done . Making me a bit homesick I spent many happy years diving and fishing around there. If you want plenty of lead sinkers go snorkeling around off flat rock on a good day (some viz. ) and make sure no surf casters chucking more at ya . The ledges parallel with the ...

Re: WHATUWHIWHI KAYAK OPEN DAY

Yeah it's me - I really enjoyed dreaming up posts and sharing my extensive Kayaking in all shapes and forms experience on this Forum . It gave me a chance to put back in something I am passionate and active in and another reason to get out doing it , but as others have said soon enough as in all fac...

Re: Glass and Rocky Beaches

I guess I wouldn't rule out anything at this stage in terms of manufacturer. It all depends how the insurance claim goes. I'm probably looking at $2.5k budget if I buy new. Whatever I get will be purpose built for fishing and for ease of maintenance it's hard to go past the roto moulded plastic. Na...

Re: Glass and Rocky Beaches

Mate if its speed you are after have a look at the predator pdl, as fast if not faster than glass with the bonus of being short and insanely stable... Challenge then see ya with the Pedal and we'll do a quick loop of the bay of Islands , all recorded GPS logged, filmed etc. Conventional Sea kayak v...

Re: Clifton HB May 7th - The Spinies are back in town

8) Yup , must try and hook up for a fish with you sometime I'm back down home. The Barracuda though are just plain nasty and fricken dangerous , plus ours are full of parasitic worms for some reason and only good for bait as oily flesh. The Spineys are good at lashing that spine though and extra car...

Re: Clifton HB May 7th - The Spinies are back in town

Wow great fishing for the ol home town , well done .
If you're careful, kevlar dive glove or heavy rag , maybe keeping a few Dogfish for a feed .
They sell it as Snow fillets and is quite expensive , dense flesh good for cooking.

Re: Kayak for Trolling?

Get a QK Torres as a start point As per OP: " Must be SoT " Like I said you're dreaming - a Sit in is the only way you can get half what you prescribe a short fat SOT just cannot do it otherwise exploration trips of epic proportions would be done on them , they are not . Too slow, too little reserv...

Re: Kayak for Trolling?

Get a QK Torres as a start point , absolutely perfect hull for what you're dreaming . Then customise it to fit as they have a restrictive moulded seat , shame really as all their Plastic Sea kayaks have an adequate one size fits all . In spite of whatever any one's commercial affiliations , mine evo...
