Went down late morning through till afternoon to see what was around.. I caught many different species: Kahawai, Spiny Dogfish, Blue Cod, ScorpionFish, Spotty, Yellow Eyed Mullet, Even a cute conger eel. Conditions were great apart from the rolling 1.2m swell . Can confirm Spinies are still a menace...

Looking like a real goer this weekend for the kayak fishing, I'll be heading to Tangoio or Te Awanga swell depending. Feeling great to have a weather break and some time to get off the coast again. Going to be a bit colder this time though. Who's Keen?

Re: Easter weekend

Fishing was on fire for Kahawai, Horse mackerel and other bit's and pieces. I got destroyed by a big Kingfish on my Gurnard rig (200m on the first run) After being towed a good 500m my dropper loop on the 40lb leader gave way. Was always going to happen with pressure like that. (could have bit the 2...

Off to the weigh in! Screen Shot 2018-03-27 at 4.49.04 PM.png Talking to my mates a lot of us had struggled and many people were only weighing in 2 species. Plagues of kahawai had been reported across the coast. Still some people had done well. The top fish were : Kingfish - 9.07kg Tuna - (No Albaco...

The weather was looking good for a saturday mission so loaded up, and got over to tongoio arriving just as the sun came up. well a forecast .3m wave height was quite off. There were 3 sets pushing in over a metre. didn't fancy the landing. So pulled the pin and headed south to Te Awanga, beautiful l...

Re: Tongoio Kingfish Madness

The first go i got at the fish (when it was swimming alongside the yak) It was off cam but the first go i had at the tail it quite frankly dealt to me , i couldnt hold on so i had to let go. then i had anothe...
