Re: What to get as a free diving/spearfishing platform

I know you said you can't afford a Viking, however I have used my Profish 400 and for free diving/spear fishing and find it excellent. Plenty of room in the rear well for free diving fins. I use a float and not a float boat. Easy to get off and on - as long as you take your weight belt off before ge...

Re: Kaiaua Mussel Farms.

Easy as, tide is not a problem. You will see where the boats launch, just follow suit. The tide is fairly strong at times through the farm so you need a decent mussel hook or rope to tie of on the ropes or a bouy. Bit of berley doesn't go astray, fishes well early morning. Out by the channel at the ...

Re: manu bay mission

"awesomeness how far do you normally go.do u anchor up." I like to paddle out in a line from the surf club toward the bar, drop anchor in about 10 meters and burley up. Can be good for gurnard and snaps. Also there is a good hole out from the rocks between the Manu bay boat ramp and the main beach -...

Re: Kayak Review/s?

I have watched this thread develop with interest. Having owned several yaks over the past 10 years like others say there is no simple answer. I test paddled my first fishing yak - a Cobra Fish n Dive - on Hamilton Lake on a calm day - should 've bought the Swing but was swayed by the salesman :n: I ...

Great to see the kid kitted out there DJ. Crikey when I was his age we thought a rugby jersey was the go for keeping warm in the water! I was practising my breathing when out paddling yesterday, can do 25 strokes on 1 breath. Must try some snorkelling next.

Manu Bay Saurday

Hope to snag some fish for marinated fish salad on Christmas day. Low tide midday so I thought I might head out for a bait and berley session on the incoming tide if anyone is interested. Forecast is pretty benign.
