Re: CKF Kayak Fishing Social Gathering and Competition

Thanks Rob and Janet. This would've been my 5th year at this event. I would highly recommend this event to others. But due to my missus work commitments that weekend (and dad daycare duties), I'll have to miss this one. I'm planning a weekend trip in mid November to make up for it. Good luck to all ...

Re: Waipu Cove

Damn right. Northland rocks! Caught some beauts like this in Whananaki on Saturday. All the big ones released and kept one 47cm snapper. https://www.instagram.com/p/B2qBfaqn8WU/?igshid=la5fbdimnqid I'll be heading to Awanui next month for a family reunion and hope to do a spot of fishing around ther...

Re: Saving pennies for first yak

The viking paddles are solid! My paddles are around 10 years old and have racked up dozens of trips. They're a little heavier than the carbon fibre paddles but they've never let me down. Unlike the carbon fiber paddle I currently use |( . It broke on my 3rd trip. Finding a replacement part was very ...

Re: Saving pennies for first yak

I feel a little bad for posting this. I had a small renovation job and our client's were selling their house, as well as selling their kayaks. I overheard a conversation that our client wanted to sell their kayaks so I approached them, made an offer and bought a near new Viking Reload with accessori...

Re: Eastern BOP kayak fishing Competition 2019

Nice work! I see you are a Marlins Fan. I run Randwick park community centre and have the younger age group boys from marlins running around. You should come up with us to Papa Aroha for their fishing comp in November. :) Hi Coach. That sounds great. I've kinda lost touch with my team at the moment...

Sounds great. I'll have to try and get my hands on some plum and grapevine chips. I finished a couple of Salmon fillets over the weekend. The cold smoked food doesn't last long in my house.

I usually buy my woodchip at mitre 10. The Grillman woodchip seem to be the perfect size for my UFO smoker. I've got Apple, Manuka, Pohutukawa and Oak. I'm pretty hooked on cold smoking now.

Now i'm really looking forward to it. I've also been told to take some buckets of KFC to woo the locals. Apparently it's like gold over there.

Re: Paddle pants

I had the gul code zero salopettes from NZ sailing and although fairly comfortable and warm with the high front and back, the waterproofing was average. I think the seated knees up position in the kayak seat stretches the fabric and compromises the waterproofing. Got worse and worse and I finally g...

Anyone fished in Rarotonga?

Me and a bunch of mates are turning 40 this year. I figured I need a holiday somewhere tropical. So I might as well do some fishing while I'm there. Does anyone have a charter they recommend?
