Re: Kayak Wanted

That’s a good budget. I sold a ocean kayak prowler 13 recently for $1000 including fish finder, battery, drogue, rod holders, net, c tug trolley, anchor.

Re: A little story about Shimano - and why I will never buy them again.

Because I'm a cheapskate, I could never pay 200 bucks for a reel. What I tend to do is buy 20~30 dollar reels online and replace them once they fail. I've only ever had one reel fail inside a year. I also give them a quick little grease every year to the cogs. Yep that is another option, I know HLD...

Re: A little story about Shimano - and why I will never buy them again.

Tangent here, but speaking of buying offshore, I have 2 x Daiwa BG2500 reels arriving from SRMO in the states, got both of them for $232 landed in NZ. Best price I have seen here is $199 each. Makes it an easy decision! Will have to add GST too soon. Also, it's great UNTIL you need any support by D...

Re: Fledgling Kayak fisher in Whangaparaoa

Hi mate I am up on scott rd, I fish out of arkles a bit. I will probably head out from either waiwera or wenderholm tomorrow morning for a softbait session. Fish are in close right now, been getting some good snapper in around 7m depth. I started on a prowler 13 and would recommend it - fast enough ...

Re: Kayak Trolling for Kingfish

Yeah big softbaits are easy to tow, maybe a large Savage Gear Real Eel on a 1oz jighead. Bigger the better - usually less kahawai hookups on big lures.

Re: Anyone carrying all their tackle in their PFD?

I always assume everything got wet, so they all go into a tub of fresh water while I hose down my other gear, then get laid out on a paper towel to dry for a couple of days before I put them away.

Re: Anyone carrying all their tackle in their PFD?

Yes I have always carried everything in my PFD and have had no problem getting back into the kayak with the PFD on. I use the Extrasport Osprey http://www.raglanwatersports.co.nz/product/extrasport-adults-osprey-life-vest/ I attach a knife in a plastic sheath to the D-ring on the front, 2 packs of z...

Yeah, always good fishing new areas and getting new species. Both the Porae and the Golden Snapper were fantastic eating.

Belated TR x 3

Tauranga bay 25/2/18 Launched around 6.30 and met up with Hairy Little Dwarf (Pete) and his accomplice Martin. Paddled over towards Stephenson island picking up the odd small fish on scattered sign on the way over. We got into some good action around 9.30am in 30ish meters east of the island. I didn...

If outside is rough will you be intending to anchor up in the harbor or just go with current?
I'll anchor up. Tried softys in the harbour last time but I think water vis was pretty poor. I struggled to catch anything decent.

Tauranga Bay/Whangaroa sat 24/2 - wed 28/2

I'll be staying at tauranga bay camping ground from Saturday 24/2 until Wednesday 28/2

Will be taking the yak etc, anyone keen to catch up for a fish? Really keen to get out to Stevensons if the weather plays ball, but set up for a dirty harbour strayline session if it is rough.

Cheers

Re: Anyone interested in my moulds for centre console???

Hi mate Yeah that was me that PM'd you about the moulds. Not sure if they are the right fit for my 4.5 elite, I may have to make my own. I have a couple of different ideas, I want to retain the drink holder, and because I am using a thru-hull (silicon mounted) transducer, I want to utilise the trans...
