Re: October Clifton nosey

Sounds like it was good day , and the photos indicate some nice glassy conditions . I worked last weekend ,so couldn't join you but keep me in the loop for next weekend .!

Re: Sunday September

I took a fairly relaxed approach to the morning ,with high tide at about 9.30am , so I was pleasantly surprised to see a good muster of kayaks , and possibly a new person to the group.
Didn't make the fishing any better ,but good haul there Rex , on what was a pleasant morning!

Workups

All this week there have been workups along the Marine Parade. Beginning Monday the fish have come in close and at times large pods of dolphins have been feeding as well. I would have thought the KY would be full of whitebait but surprisingly that hasn't been the case . Most of the fish Ive got have...

Port

Sneaked out to the outermost green bouy early this morning . What a blast ! Conditions were perfect. I hooked 3 large KY but only managed to boat one ! This prompted a gear overhaul afternoon , with particular attention to terminal tackle and I replaced pretty much all my hooks. Gave all the reels a...

Re: Mahia this weekend Interest?

Pretty good result there Blair , I myself fished Whirinaki, on the surfcaster but came up empty handed . I was using prawns & mussels , hoping for the sort of Rig that you scored ! I like the Tangoio area ,and I'm keen to fish it more over the coming season . I had a discussion with someone at work ...

Mahia beach campground closure

Having heard rumours that the campground at Mahia has closed I rang them to see what was going on . Yes unfortunately , the rumours are true . The camp is closed indefinitely, due to the non compliance of its waste systems- sewage. The camp managers have taken early retirement , and the camp owners ...

Re: Whats goin ' on ?

I haven't been home much lately , I'm house sitting in Havelock , and driving or flying to Auckland whenever I can , so the Aquarium trip is still just an idea, a live one , but as I say, underdone at this point . Any visit would be dependant on when my weekend shift falls . The water in the oceanar...

Re: Whats goin ' on ?

yeah ,I got out there yesterday, just for a paddle in my "toy boat", conditions were really good. Moki has been on my surfcasting list for some time . Last winter I got a couple of undersize ones but have yet to crack that 40cm limit. They are weed & shellfish eaters , preferring the colder water , ...

Whats goin ' on ?

Last week one of the Pania surfcasting boys caught a kingfish off the beach at Awatoto ! Yes it was Caine Wrigglesworth, one of the top rated surfcasters in the bay , maybe the country , but what's a kingi doing there in the first place ? Furthermore , there are kings' being caught further out too ,...

Re: Glass and Rocky Beaches

Myself , I would forget glass on those conditions, I launch in similar situations and altho I try to protect my hull like you do ,I still get gouges in the plastic . Glass isn't so forgiving .

Re: Testing the water.

The Clifton option sounds good Blair , so I think I will launch there Sat morning , conditions permitting , and if my fishing mojo is still pumping I will look at Sunday too. Will get some bait organised for you Bruce . Cheers H , and the Aquarium tour sounds very do-able, good idea , I will work on...

Re: Testing the water.

Good to hear from you Bruce . I don't have a specific plan for the weekend , but I'm aiming to make kayak fishing a priority , either day , or both . I guess the weather is the governing factor , but keen to have a look at TA or Clifton. The Port hasn't been so kind to me in recent trips , but its a...

Testing the water.

For some of us it has been a pretty indifferent season. For me personally , it has been an emotional roller coaster, with both the elation of a new ,and more fulfilling job , late in my working life , and the joys of an overseas trip with family , to the crushing blows that one of us has been strick...

Re: Disposing of fish carcass at sea

I generally clean up at home .I've got a stainless double sink top on a wheeled frame , I wheel it onto the lawn , and hook in the garden hose , onto a nylex garden tap fitting on the side . Underneath I have a big black bin , and this takes all the frames ,guts and mess . I'm economical with fresh ...

Brilliant Blair ! You have consistently made the effort to do the Taranaki Classic & it's obviously paying off . I read your trip report , and it looks like you had a really good time ,good pics too. I hope you bought your dad a few beers , big effort on his part too, eh !

Re: Sunday 2nd of April

good catch Blair ! Kind of envious of the 4 rod holders on the Profish 400. There are times when I would like to increase my arsenal , so to speak , but the 4.1 only offers 2 rear mounted rod holders . I guess if I was really serious I would mount a Railblazer rack but I'm getting to the limit on ka...

Lets crank it up !

The DIY page has been a bit quiet of late , so maybe we should dig deep & present a few ideas to get the ball rolling ! What insignificant little changes have you made to your yak recently? Tell us about it ! For my part , this bit of the forum is very important ! It's the bit that inspires new kaya...
