Re: Okuma X Factor Top Section

Contact your local retailer, top sections for almost all Okuma rods are readily available and they can order it in for you.
Generally the price is around 50% of a rod.

Re: Is a sub-$500 set-up worth it or save a bit more?

One small, but very important, detail. Most chartplotters are Geo fenced. Meaning that they won't work outside of their original market area. I don't know if this is applicable to Garmin, but Navico products (Simrad/Lowrance) are, and the unlock key can be bought here in New Zealand, but is close to...

Re: Hi there

A quick plug before I throw it up on Trademe and FB, I have a Lowrance Elite 7 Chirp that's 3 years old that I am selling, has two gimbals and power cables (you never know when you are going to set up that second vessel, right?) a Navionics Platinum Chart Card and a 50/200 khz transducer. It's a tid...

Re: Drogue/Sea anchors

I have both the Tagit and the Rob Fort lightweight material drogues. (The Rob Fort one was purchased after a lapse in the brainium meant I left my drogue at home on a trip). My $0.02 - the lightweight Rob Fort is my preference, rolls up really nicely and seems to set and hold better. I also like the...

Re: A little story about Shimano - and why I will never buy them again.

Who knew Shimano NZ read these forums.... You'd be surprised who reads these forums! :D :D Seriously, I work for Composite Developments, we bring Okuma and Savage Gear into New Zealand, along with several other brands. I think in this case it's a pretty simple mix up, and Shimano have certainly don...

Square Top 23 April

Being cunning I had booked the Monday and Tuesday off as leave before Anzac day, and went camping with family and a mate and his family at Otautu Bay, Colville. Naturally both of us took our kayaks and fishing gear. Saturday and Sunday it blew it's nut off from the South West, but the forecast for M...

Re: Speed bumps are fighting back

I agree with all of the above, and the ignorance and poor behaviour of many skippers on the water. I, for my sins, do get to skipper a boat a fair bit, and have had my fair share of incidents with other idiot skippers, so it's cold comfort that it's not just kayakers at risk on the water. I'd wager ...

I just dont get the 8ft rods at all :^)
Agree. Largely they are canal rods, will throw a light jig head (think 1/8 oz or less) a long way, but there's hell to pay in a kayak for that length.

Re: Newbie Rod and reel setups (Nelson)

What style of fishing are you wanting to try? I am guessing from the mention of Scarborough and sinkers it's bait. A good couple of options are either going spin with a baitfeeder type reel (Okuma Avenger, Shimano Baitrunner, Penn Liveliner) that mean you can strayline and cast easily. Get a 6'6 gla...

Re: Strayline reels

It is the rod that does the work. As long as your chosen reel has a smooth drag and can hold the appropriate amount of line, it does not matter. I'd agree to a here, and chose a reel that's reasonably well matched to the rod weightwise. Both of those reels will do the trick, but I'd go with the Cor...

Re: Fluoro leader for soft bait

If you are looking to use a clip consider Mustad's fastach clips. I use fastach swivel clips on all my rigs - trolling, running rigs, dropper rigs, micro jigs. I'm not a big soft-baiter. They are small for their rating, easy (once you get used to the, secure and do not fail (in my experience). I've...

Okuma Komodo 364

Hi, selling this honey of a baitcaster. It's an Okuma Komodo 364, has stainless steel gears, 11 ball bearings, 11 kgs of drag (carbon fibre), spool driven level wind (means that the levelwind always stays lined up with line going out, meaning no harsh line angles under load when lines going off the ...
